2010 Spring Workshop in New York City
This eight week intensive workshop, held in conjunction with the Anindo Chatterjee School of Tabla, and open to musicians at all levels, will introduce students to techniques and compositions
in the tradition of Maihar Gharana (school) of
the legendary Baba Ustad Allaudin Khan. Classes Begin Monday, May 3rd, 2010.
Instrumental/Sitar Class
This course will provide students with an in-depth exploration of raga form, as well as fundamental instrumental techniques like meend (bending of notes), bols (rhythmic patterns) and paltas (instrumental exercises). The class will have a special focus on the sitar, but it is open to any instrument (Western or Indian, tuned to play in a key of C#). Classes will be held Mondays at 7:00pm and Saturdays at 2:30pm. Students at all levels are encouraged to participate.
Vocal Class
North Indian classical music is an oral tradition, and vocal music provides a fundamental key to understanding the Hindustani musical style. The vocal course will explore the basic tenets of Hindustani vocal music, as well as the different styles of singing and composition of North India. Pt. Bhatt will hold classes on Saturday afternoons at 1:00pm. Instrumentalists are also encouraged to attend.
Pricing
Fees are for the two-month session.
$400 – 1 Class per week. (8 classes)
$700 – 2 classes per week. (16 classes)
$900 – 3 classes per week. (24 classes)
Auditors can attend all classes for $400.
